Kyoto Station: The space between

Kyoto Station Design Concept

“A stage upon which people met and departed.
A stage upon which people experience various passages of their life.”

The gateway that is the present, separating the past from the future.

I wasn’t expecting this much steel in Kyoto but it was a pleasant surprise. Itย was as if the city known for its heritage sites was trying to make a statement – that it belongs to the present as much as it belongs to the past. For those who are leaving and those who have just arrived, this is probably the impression Kyoto wants to leave us with. And no matter which way, then and now, always a class act.
